Hand Forged Sgian Achlais in Gaelic or Oxter Knife in my native Doric is a historic Scottish Highland "armpit knife" that was a predecessor to the modern Sgian Dubh.
Derived from the Gaelic for "knife" and "armpit," this type of dagger was carried in the sleeve or armpit, unlike the Sgian Dubh which is worn in the sock. Historically, the Sgian Achlais was a multi-purpose tool as well as a weapon.
Edward Burt's "Letters from a Gentleman in the North of Scotland" 1754 state,
"Some of them carry a sort of knife which they call a skeen-ochles, from its being concealed in the sleeve near the armpit"
This reproduction embraces authentic design principles while using high-quality modern materials.
