This sgian dubh been hand-carved, giving it a raw and traditional character. The handle adding both grip and a sense of craftsmanship.

The braiding looks dark and slightly weathered, it was made with durability and function in mind rather than polished ornamentation.

The blade itself is narrow, tapering to a point, with a textured, timeworn surface that speaks to hand-forging and gives it a Sense of age.

It doesn’t have the highly polished look of a ceremonial sgian dubh; instead, it carries a rugged, utilitarian aesthetic, closer to how such knives might have been in their original everyday use in the Highlands.

Planted into the wooden post, the knife takes on an almost symbolic presence—evoking tradition, survival, and heritage. Its handcrafted imperfections highlight the individuality of the piece, setting it apart from mass-produced versions.

All our blades are traditionally hand forged from high carbon steel in our outdoor workshop. Once forging is completed, the blade goes through a heat treating and tempering cycle to give a reliable but sharp edge, adding to the authentic Scottish blacksmithing experience. The blade design is my own interpretation of what the Highlanders' Sgian Dubh may have looked and felt like.

The handle is hand fitted and treated with environmentally-friendly beeswax (from a local farm) to give a beautiful, long lasting, lustre.

The Sgian Dubh comes with a custom boot-style sheath.

All out kilt knives are designed to look stunning with your Highland Dress kilt whilst being fully functional as an outdoors tool for camping, fishing and all types of wild adventures.
